Our History
Ross + Liddell have been integral to Glasgow’s property landscape for nearly 170 years, emerging in response to the city’s rapid industrial and population growth.

1854
We have traced our origins back to the mid-19th century, when Alexander Barron established a property management business in 1854, coinciding with a housing boom driven by industrial expansion. R+L relocated multiple times, expanding in line with the growing need for housing solutions.

1876
By 1876, we became T Ross, later evolving into Ross and Liddell in 1898. Throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Glasgow’s urban development surged, with tenement housing becoming the predominant accommodation style. Ross and Liddell played a pivotal role in managing these properties, ensuring they met rising standards of sanitation and comfort.

Early 1900s
The early 20th century saw significant challenges, including the collapse of the City of Glasgow Bank in 1888, which temporarily halted construction, and later, the impact of World War I. However, post-war housing shortages led to large-scale suburban developments like Castlemilk and Drumchapel, shifting the property market landscape.

Late 1900s
The late 20th century witnessed further urban renewal, with Ross and Liddell contributing to tenement refurbishments and large-scale repair projects. Ross and Liddell adapted by diversifying their services and expanding through acquisitions, including Mackinnon and Browning (1949), James G Lynn (1965), and multiple other firms through the 1970s. A notable milestone was our 1988 merger with Winning and Fulton, enhancing our reach and influence. By the 1990s, the firms consolidated under the Ross and Liddell name, cementing our position as a leader in property management in Scotland.
